- This page will inform you about how and where the titles are ordered at the start of a film. By researching this we know the correct way of doing our titles, consequently, by doing this our opening title will be as professional as other film companies.
Below is the order we managed to find and their meaning:
- Distribution Company - Distribution is the process of making a product or service, in this case a film company that is available for the use by a consumer or business user.
- Production Company - This is the company that is going to produce the film, any extra money required for the film will be available from that company. With a film there can be more than one production company. This means that the money will be split equally from each company allowing them all to have a showing at the start of the film.
- The title- The title comes next, this is usually quite large and bold for everyone to see, this also lets the audience know that the film is going to start imminently.
- Lead Cast- These are the main characters in the film. Normally these characters/actors are usually most well know by the public which is why they feature at the start.
- Supporting Cast- Even though these people still have a part to play in the film, they don't necessarily feature as much as the lead cast do and is why they get left until after the main characters. Also they tend not to be as popular or well known to the audience.
- Casting Director- This role of this job is to make the decisions of the cast, making sure each person fits the character that they are playing, this means they need to audition every person that applies for the position.
- Music Composer- The music composer's job is to decide the ways that the music is integrated into the movie, and also even when required; an orchestra would be needed so the music composer would be in charge of that.
- Costume Designer- This person(s) role is important because they are in charge of what everyone should be wearing as to what suits in the film. They decide on colour, style, costume and the way it is worn.
- Associate Producer- As for this job, they help the producers of the film. This entails helping with writing, actions on set and editing. They are almost like an assistant to the producers, there for a second opinion.
- Editors- The editor is the one to put all the clips together. This takes a lot of time, effort and skill to entail with. They need to use different methods of linking the clips, such as different transitions. They need to make it look as best as possible and in a way where it can easily be made into a trailer for the public to see before viewing it in a cinema or on DVD.
- Production Designer- The production designers are the people that choose the way the visuals are seen by everyone like the characters' actions and areas they should be at to make it most effective.
- Director of Photography- Any image or photo that is or will be included in the film is edited by the director of photography. They are able to edit the photos and images in a variety of different ways which will fit the film.
- Executive Producer- The executive producer is the person that supervises the other producers. They make sure that the producers are doing a good job but also does a lot as well in that regard.
- Producer- The producer is in charge of the production of the film and they help raise points about how the scene can be improved.
- Writer- The writer is the person who writes the dialogue in the film. They have a say in how the dialogue should be said and also have an input on the stage directions. If the written work isn't to a high quality standard, no matter how good the acting is, the film will not reach its full potential of success.
- Director- A film director is a person who directs the making of a film. Generally, a film director controls a film's artistic and dramatic aspects, and visualizes the script while guiding the technical crew and actors in the fulfilment of that vision. Although there are people who help make the film, the director has the power to reject any ideas if they think it will not benefit the film. This is why they are usually last in order of the credits.
Insidious
This is an example of a good opening title sequence. Therefore our opening title sequence will me very similar to this opening. We have decided to not have a story based opening and to just use various shots as I think a story theme takes the focus away from the titles and can sometimes become to complicated and in depth for an opening. I also think that having various amounts of spooky shots can build the tension in the opening and make it more interesting to watch.
