The Grudge - Opening Title Sequence
Release Date - 2004
Budget - $10,000,000
Grossed - $187,000,000
Running Time - 91 minutes
Characters - There are 3 main characters in this opening title sequence. They are the house maid, the actual owner of the house and the grudge 'creature'. The way they are introduced in different scenes, the maid is seen riding her bike to the house and it let in by the owner, she (the home owner) is wearing a sort of white robe.
Location - The main location of The Grudge is set in Japan, and the opening title sequence is shot in a old Japan styled house which goes with the stereotypical appearance. The scene before the clip above showed her riding her bike down the streets, we (the audience) allow ourselves to think that this is a safe place and somewhat normal. The tension starts when the other character in the scene is introduced and the audience is shown the house.
Sound - As the opening title sequence starts, a slow spine-chilling music starts and the volume increases. With diegetic sound coming from the attic which emphasis that someone or something is up there. This builds up pressure in the audience to see what actually is in the attic.

Sinister - Opening Title Sequence
Release Date - 2012
Budget - $3,000,000
Grossed - $77,700,000
Running Time - 110 minutes
Shots - The shot used in this opening title sequence is to show the effect of an old projector style. It creates a spine chilling effect on the audience, because of this effect you're unable to see everything clearly. If you look carefully you are able to see a saw cutting through a branch which you are able to see due to them using a long shot.
Characters - You are able to clearly see four characters with a noose around their neck which is attached to another branch. Their hand are tied up behind their back so they cannot escape. If you look at it from the audiences approach you would think that it is a family all being murdered.
Location - The opening title sequence is possibly shot in the families garden. The first thing you see is them alive waiting for their death, this could allow the aspect of escape to occur but since a saw is cutting though the branch keeping them alive it soon snaps. This causes the family to be draw into the air, chocking them and finally killing them a horrible undignified death.
Sound - Because of the old projector style film, they decided to use diegetic sound which adds to the atmosphere. There are also faint screams which are at the main moments of the scene. This can be confusing as you think it is going to be something else other than the opening title sequence.
