Sound is one of the most important features on an OTS or a trailer, it can either make or break the sequence. Sound adds a sense of atmosphere which camera angles and shots cannot necessarily create. Having good shots and actors in your OTS is also an important feature, however if the sound doesn't match, or isn't there the overall mood of the sequence can be lost. There are many different types of sound used in films; such as - music, sound effects and dialogue. If used correctly all these sounds can produce a massive effect on the film, creating atmosphere and tension. some example of sound are listed below:
Diegetic
Diegetic sound is visible on screen. It is the noises made in the actual film by the actors, this could be when characters are having a conversation, when they move objects around, or music being played e.g on the radio. Diegetic sound can be either on or off screen depending on whatever its source is within the frame or outside the frame. Here is an example below.

This is an example of diegetic sound. i know this is diegetic sound because you can see the character that is speaking, this shows that t is bot a voiceover or music added on when editing. This creates a calm and a more relaxed environment which is what the director would want to create. however in our opening sequence we will not be using diegetic sound because we don't want to create a calm and relaxed atmosphere. therefore our sound will be non-diegetic.
Non Diegetic
Non diegetic sound is not visible on screen, it has been edited in to imply an action which could be happening on screen. An example of
non diegetic sound cold be; narrators commentary, sound effects to make it more dramatic or mood music.

This is an example of non diegetic sound. i know this is non diegetic sound because you can hear the mood music over the top of the character at the start of the clip, then there is then a narrators commentary over the top of the character. This creates a tense and disturbing environment which is what the director would want to create.
